Preen Spring Summer 2012

Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi joined the pastel colour blocking club along with almost every other designer in New York. It’s super exclusive. I love Preen. Their cuts are often superb and they have a great eye for colour. To temper the sickly sweet pastels they threw in black and navy which really gave some balance to the pixelated prints. But Vera Wang and Philip Lim did the same thing so I guess they don’t score points for originality. Special mention goes to look 21, a white shirt with a sugary lemon cuff and a cornflower blue frill was paired with an ingeniously draped skirt. It’s so Alexa Chung it hurts.

3.1 Phillip Lim Spring Summer 2012

Peach, lavender, soft, drapey, comfortable. 95% of the collection was wearable. I wouldn’t say it was a terribly interesting collection but it’s so ready for the shops which is what Lim is all about. Look 19 appeared to be washed out denim was hot. Look 32, a simple, draped dress in navy. Then he introduced a highly dubious print in blobby white, purple and black.

3.1 PHILLIP LIM DOES 70'S ROCKABILLY. DOES THAT EVEN EXIST?

Great collection from Phillip Lim. The show opened with a neat high-waisted skirt with crossed suspenders. It was done in a cool oversize check and edged in black leather like a blanket.

But this was no pilgrim. Perhaps she was passing through the Nevada desert before making her way to a glamourous 70’s casino where a purple sequined top wouldn’t look out of place.

Rockabilly biker jackets oddly rounded out the collection and there were some beautiful silk tops that trailed off at the back.
