Day one of fashion week is never particularly exciting (not when you’re on the other side of the world looking at it on a laptop) and this year is no different.
I thought I’d add some images of Gwen Stefani’s label LAMB. I think it’s one of the more credible and less dubious celebrity designed collections and it’s good to see Stefani sticking it out as she clearly loves fashion.
So I’ve perused over BCBG Max Azria and it reminded me of Rodarte’s delicately draped dresses. Michael Angel’s collection had blown up diamond prints on structured dresses and tops. Alexander McQueen’s done it already and he did it better. Exuberant, yes, original, no.Everyone's talking about Prabal Gurung who had a great collection. He said he was inspired by an old 70's YSL fragrance package but I think it was more directly just YSL, particularly a beautiful polka dot dress with a bow. Preen was a bit samey. Apparently they were inspired by grunge. I personally didn't make the connection. Jason Wu showed a pretty, conservative collection that's surely going to grab the eye of Michelle Obama or those that want to be Michelle Obama. The standout was a neat little tulip skirt with a satin belt. Very chic. Nicole and Michael Colovos produced an amazing collection for Helmut Lang, showing some great draped pieces including drop-crotch pants and some beautifully tailored jackets.
