ALEXANDER WANG SPRING 2010

Alexander Wang’s latest collection was very focused. On sport.
There was definitely a football motif dotted throughout the collection with small, squashy clutch bags that looked like burst footballs. The ball motif turned up in raglan shoulders and some questionable looking hot pants with a laced fly that evoked Shakira, not the 90’s sports gladiator, collegiate uni girl with bigger balls than her boyfriend that was ever-present in the rest of the collection.

Perhaps not intentionally this collection paid tribute to the humble tracksuit. Some pieces literally were sportswear: the sports bra, a khaki/sweatpant hybrid, university sports jackets and a nod to Adidas tracksuit stripes showed up on a dress and a pair of leggings. Body-con dressing that was done more successfully in London a few season ago popped up with some cut-outs on shorts and some dresses. A small run of sheer fabrics looked dated but these are mere quibbles. Wang’s fans will go nuts for these clothes, failing that there’ll be queues for the zippered open-toe heels and the sexy backless knee-high socks. Go team.
